I’ve seen a lot of exchanges come and go, but my stance has always been the same: stick with reputable exchanges you can take to court in the country you reside in. No matter how much due diligence you do, there’s always a risk with exchanges getting hacked, shut down, or collapsing due to internal fraud. If that happens with an exchange outside your country, recovering anything is nearly impossible.
Since getting into crypto in 2017, I’ve always favored three exchanges, Kraken, Coinbase, and Binance. While Binance used to be my go-to, they failed to navigate the legal landscape of the United States. I’ve always been a big fan of Coinbase and admire their contributions to the industry, but Kraken has always had a vibe that resonates with me. In 2024, Kraken has become my preferred exchange in every aspect, not just vibes. In the past, Kraken was far from my favorite exchange. I constantly battled with their user interface, API call-outs, and lack of liquidity. Over the past two years, though, they have evolved into a monster that lives up to their name. Kraken Pro is fast, user-friendly, reliable, and has high liquidity with fees around 50% cheaper than other North American exchanges.
You know my history and that I refuse 99% of the offers/promotions that hit my inbox. I only support brands where I love their teams and their vibes. Kraken didn’t reach out to me, I reached out to them. They are one of the very few teams that I love, and their exchange aligns with me on multiple levels. I’ve seen too many friends lose fortunes to leverage and fraudulent exchanges going under. So, I’m choosing to support one of the few North American exchanges still standing.
